We will discuss some of the following "essay" questions.
(1) Martin Luther King, Jr. was a brave man with a big dream. The more you look at conditions in the South in the first half of the twentieth century, the more astounding King's accomplishments become. (support this by looking at the dream and his method, conditions that he faced in the South, and his accomplishments)
(2) What was the significance of the Marshall Plan?
(3) What was the significance of 9/11?
(4) In America, the president's power is directly proportionate to the public's trust in his personal character and skills. Give examples that support this statement. Are there examples that negate this statement?
(5) "In the course of the twentieth century, Americans modified their relationship with the federal government in significant ways. A series of progressive presidents led a willing public to enlarge the roles and responsibilities of the federal government in individual citizen's lives. The presidents who most strongly led in this direction were Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson." Support this statement by discussing the contributions that each of these presidents made to an ever stronger federal government.
