Co-op #14 Literature Story Hour - Aesop's Fables

Post by LeeAnnP »

Hi Lower Grammar families,

I'm eager to see the faces of your kiddos tomorrow.

We are going to three fables.
1. The Tortoise and the Hare
2. The Lion and the Mouse
3. The Ant and the Grasshopper

We will be talking about
-the definition of a fable
-who Aesop is
-what is "the moral of the story"
-anthropomorphism (say what?!) I think they will think it is fun to learn such a big word. Basically it is when animals or inanimate objects take on human characteristics - like talking, racing, working, having emotions and motives.
-character, setting, plot

Below you will find some coloring pages to go with the stories.

Other activities to do with them or as a family (some of these would make fun dinner conversation with all your kids):
-talk about animals that have character traits of humans (wise owl, stubborn mule) - we will be talking about this tomorrow
-watch YouTube videos of animated Aesop fables - there are lots - ask them to retell the story
-make up your own fable (write, draw, or tell) that includes talking animals acting like humans and teaches a lesson
-find and read more fables
-make up a fable that includes animals acting like humans during this Covid 19 isolation - you can give them a moral and they come up with a story to illustrate it (being a good neighbor, sharing with people who need it, taking care of the sick, sacrificing so others don't get sick, not hoarding but trusting God for provision)

Thanks for sharing your students with me! See you tomorrow
Lee Ann
