Homework for Co-op 15

Post by LaurenR »

Upper Grammar 6th Graders:
You are doing an assignment this week in conjunction with dialectic writing and literature.

Assignment: Composing a Story with Randomly Assigned Literature Components!

In class on co-op 14, we will briefly discuss components of literature you have studied with Mrs. Givan this year. This week, you will be the author and turn in a short story using randomly assigned literature components. The 6 categories are:

Genre-for example, sci-fi or historical fiction
Point of View-narrator, 1st, 2nd or 3rd person
Topic-what the story is about, for example, someone trying out for soccer or a bird’s life
Theme-the moral of the story, what the author wants you to learn/know
Mood-the emotions the author is trying to get the reader to feel
Dynamic Character Change-showing not telling how the character changes throughout the story

You will use the card for each category that you were given to write a story of your own. The goal is to share with the class on Co-op 15, allowing them to guess what components you were given. For example, you may say after reading: “What point of view did I write from?” and “What genre do you think this story was?”

There is no length specified for this assignment, but it needs to simply be long enough to convey all the components well. Have fun!!!

Upper Grammar 3-5th grade:

You are welcome to take a break and not turn in a writing assignment or you can choose a topic and point of view from the attached picture and write a paragraph!
