I have created a Spotify account that you and your students can follow. The Rhetoric and PreRhetoric students should follow for their Humanities Class.

You can create a free account. Parents need to understand that there are no parental controls on this, so it makes a wide variety of music available. You must decide how to monitor this website. Like any technical opportunity, it can be used for good or evil.

Once you create your account, you can browse and create your own playlists. Click browse and scroll down to find unlimited genres. One interesting feature is the genre called "Word." If you click on this, you can find presidential speeches, Shakespeare sonnets, audio books, etc. Have fun exploring.

For our purposes, I will be adding public playlists for our families to enjoy. These playlists will correspond to our history, humanities, and literature studies.

First, however, you must follow me. Go to search box and type in my name: leeannpepper or Lee Ann Pepper

You should see playlists I've found so far: Traditional Arabic & Middle Eastern Music, Eastern Christian Chants for Holy Week, Ancient Church Singing of Byzantine, Medieval 50, Celtic: Folk, Ancient, Instrumental, Medieval Feast, and Irish Ballads.

My plan is to continue to add to this list of playlists as we move through our year study. I hope your family enjoys hearing history:)

Many of you will older kids may remember the Classical Kids series of story/music cds. I've discovered them on YouTube - fun and appropriate for all ages - especially Dialectic and younger. Each one about an hour long. Most apply to time of our studies this year. Enjoy!!

I have added Renaissance composers to my Spotify account. The new playlists are the bottom nine on my list: Palestrina, Dufay, Josquin des Prez, and the Hilliard Ensemble - madrigals, Arcadelt, Dowland, Monteverdi madigrals and opera Orfeo.

Also, I have found a really good documentary on music history produced by the BBC. It is six parts - about an hour each. I am posting the first one here - BBC Howard Goodall's Story of Music. The first one is called "The Age of Discovery" and covers Ancient through Renaissance & Reformation. I have only previewed this first episode - so I will only post the link for this one now. I'll post future ones as I preview.

One warning - the introduction contains a scantily clad Lady Gaga singing and dancing for a few minutes. Not sure why he chose this clip. Unfortunately, this same intro accompanies each episode. Solution: skip forward to about 2:20 on the clock and it gets you right to the beginning of the episode.

This documentary blends the history we are studying with a little bit of music theory, the developments of instruments, and highlights of important composers.
