Prep for Coop #15 Art Clas

Post by MPiscatello »

Dear LG Students- I will be working with Brandy the last two coops to have students make a still life painting of a pear. Here are the instructions I have posted for all the students. Special note - you do not need to bring paint brushes, unless you bought them from me at the beginning of the year. I will supply the ones for us to share otherwise.

Dear Art Students -- Pre-Rhetoric & Dialectic (doing palette knife painting), UG, AND LG (using brushes),

Here are the videos I spoke of in class. Please plan to watch these prior to coming to art 4/27. All are interesting, but please at least see the ones for the type of painting you will be doing in class listed by "dear art students". Also, read all the way to the bottom for some pear studying and supplies :D

PALETTE KNIFE PAINTING
This first video is of a harvest palette knife painting by a MASTER!!! It is phenomenal. Note the "color palette" he uses --actually a massive table full of oil paint behind him. He intricately loads his palette knife with layers of paint -- watch how he can go forward and then backward to expose different colors. It is simply amazing that he can create this painting so quickly!

Jequel: "Harvest")

If you love HORSES!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOzEtDnzrKk (02-Demonstration of knife painting
by Christian Jequel: "Horses")

ALL Pre-R and D students should study this ... for the first time, I will be replicating a painting in class. Due to the fact we only have two coops left, I decided that we will follow this instructor to make the three pear knife painting. He is a fantastic instructor and introduces some great art terms. Please be sure to watch this video several times. It is under 5 min.

PAINTING (USING BRUSHES)
Here are a few videos which show some painting techniques. We will be using a thicker application than these artists are using, but it is certainly helpful to watch them.

This instructor is very easy to understand... Drawing and Painting - the virtual Instructor

This one is MUCH MORE DETAILED
than we will be getting in class on our pear. But if you are interested, it is
well done.

ALL Students will be painting pears.
As we did with the maps, please take some time to "study" pears. Here is some info to get you started. Put on your observation glasses and look at size, shape, color variations, texture, stems, speckles... You may want to sketch the various shapes. It will really help you to SEE the difference in their height, width, and "roundness" -- note they are quite different!!! You may even want to pick up some different pears to EAT! They say they are ripe when you press around their stem and there is a little bit of give.

UG AND LG Students: We will be painting using our brushes. So, please plan to bring them with you!

This will be a fantastic project - especially if you watch and prepare! Looking forward to painting with you!
