Art Coop #2

Good morning! Class yesterday was fantastic, and we covered tons of material:
HOMEWORK:
Also, please put your names on your papers!
Next coop we will do a pen and ink drawing from the Colonial Living book. I have several options for them to choose from. They should choose based on how comfortable they feel with the technique - some will be simple, some will be a little more complex. If they practice the axe and shovel several times until they have learned not to use too many lines, to really "see" what is drawn, they should be super ready for their drawings next time!
I have not found a video technique that I wanted to post yet, but I may for next week. It will be optional, but often if you can find a good one, it is super interesting and enjoyable!
Blessing! Mrs. P
- Our Creator made us in His image as creative beings
We used our "art eyes" to really SEE the pen and ink samples I brought
Rain can look like streams of water on paper, but our minds know it is rain
Wind can look like swirly lines on paper, but our minds know it is wind
Wood and metal can be discerned by how much light is reflected from the surface
Night and Day are discernable
It doesn't take many lines to help your brain identify things like grass, trees, hairstyles, etc.
Value is how light or how dark something is... (this is a term they should KNOW for class)
There are five main terms used to describe the basic drawing techniques to obtain value, and they are:- Hatching
Cross Hatching
Contour Hatching
Scumbling
Stippling
(these terms are to be memorized for next class...we described them extensively in class and can identify them in drawings)
When we draw, it is helpful to break down what we see into little parts AND to have a very sharp pencil
SAVE YOUR WHITE SPACE! The reflection will get absorbed if you don't protect it when you are drawing
Start near the reflections to help you remember to save them
Mrs. Piscatello still makes silly noises to help you understand art things
Math is part of art - hence if you like math=you should like art OR if you like art=you should like math
Ask your students what the little "zipper looking" thing is on top of the axe - Hatching
HOMEWORK:
- They should know terms as specified above.
They are to complete the worksheet with the shovel and the axe on it. I sent this home with them and turn that in to me... They MAY use other paper. Dialectic students are to DRAW THEIR OWN AXE. DO NOT TRACE Mine.
Also, complete the Value worksheet I sent home with them. for each technique specified. We discussed this in detail in class. They are to use PEN. If they have an issue, they may repeat it on another piece of paper as needed.
