Final LG Lit Sign Up Sheet
Posted: Wed Jul 13, 2016 1:17 pm
Moms,
Attached is the sign up sheet for who is leading what book and when for the LG Literature (story hour) class that is the first hour of Coop – 9:45 - 10:45 am.
If you are able to help with the restroom/water break directly after, that would be a help, but is not a must.
A few notes are below, but please feel free to ask any question you may have!
NOTES:
Please do NOT be intimidated that this will greatly increase your workload. Reading the book will take a lot of the class time.
Simple activities that help the students interact with the story can easily be found in the TOG curriculum or online or in your brain! See sample below for an idea of a typical class.
Sample for Coop #1 Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves:
(This sample lesson was created in 15 minutes and wouldn’t take much time to prep.)
Read the book.
Discuss the magic words, “Open Sesame” and how ‘please’ and ‘thank you' are magic words today.
Ask a few recall questions to be sure the students understand the gist of the story. Make sure they get that greed is a main theme and that greed causes problems for all involved.
Briefly discuss together the Student Activity Page concepts.
Play the game called “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves”: Group sits in a circle and chants Ali Baba and the 40 thieves (see YouTube examples), while doing an action. The group leader on the next beat changes the action and then on the next beat the person beside him/her does that action. The action follows its way around the circle and the whole time the group is repeating the phrase. The group leader must change the action after every beat, so that every person in the circle eventually ends up doing a different action.
Serve hummus and pita chips; eat while sitting on the floor. (This could be eaten while the book is being read if kids have their own little plate with hummus and chips.)
Thank you, all, for your help in filling the Reader/Leader spots of this LG Literature story hour time. This is a fun group and an enjoyable session to teach!
Warmly,
Peggy
PS Margaret Kirkman is the LG Lit Assistant for each class. When she is the Lead Teacher, I will be her assistant.
