Lit & Geo for Co-Op 11

Dear Dialectic Parents:
Today in Lit & Geo the students took a quick quiz over their second semester literature terms, we played a fun timed geography game as a team (of sorts) ... ask your student(s) about this and about the multi-colored map that went home in their folders.
We discussed some of the different literature genres, classifying the books we've read so far, and we discussed Behind Rebel Lines.
I previewed our next book, Dragon's Gate, which we will read over the course of two co-ops. Students will have questions pertaining to the reading to turn in at each class. There will be a separate assignment sheet with new questions for Co-op 12.
Dragon's Gate is a piece of historical fiction about the Chinese workers who came to America to build the railroad. This book has some GREAT discussion material on things like, privilege, prejudice, immigration, coming-of-age, and more. There are several books in this series that follow Chinese immigrants and the situations at home (like the Opium Wars) that motivated them to come to America.
Please let me know if you have any questions about these assignments!
With joy,
Crystal
