Art Homework for Coop #13
Posted: Fri Mar 02, 2018 7:07 pm
First, may I say it has been so fun to see all the students be so successful on these projects the last few coops. If your student has not finished their bird portraits, please be sure to schedule some time for them to do that over these next three weeks - YES - three weeks until the next coop! I would LOVE to have a picture of them with their finished birds as well! You can text me - 270-307-9573
Next topic.... We are going to take a diversion into some political subject matter. Excellent for developing our "art eyes"!
Please use the attached document - you can choose to print it or view it on a big screen as a family (love this!). It is especially good as parents can more readily explain the images of Lady Liberty, etc.
Here are your instructions:
Page 1: On this page are some examples of "ribbons" and flags that are waving. Take special note of how the ribbons curl and flow back and forth. Often banners appear in publications of this time period - and still today especially on things that have a "traditional feeling". We will be exploring this more in class and seeing how it helps us in art drawing landscapes.
Pages 2-10: These are campaign posters from the 1800's.
I will try to post some more information on campaign buttons for your comparison/enjoyment. It will be optional work.
Enjoy the longer break! Mrs. P

- 1 -- How many posters have an eagle?
2 -- How many have a flag or stars and stripes?
3 -- Make a list of at least 10 items from nature you find besides the eagle.
4 -- Make a list of the fabric features you find... things made from fabric in the poster. Note that the use of fabric/ribbons makes an appealing contrast of softness to the structure and rigidity of the architectural features of the posters.
5 -- Make a list of other symbols, what page they are on, and what they stand for besides the eagle and flag. Do you see the fences, arrows, branches, wheat...
6 -- Count how many posters have architectural features (frames, columns, "woodwork details") - we also noted this last year with cartography.
7 -- Note how many posters have layering or overlapping features - layers within themselves. Also, note the BALANCE and COMPOSITION of these beautiful drawings. Balance not only achieved through SYMMETRY (often) but in VALUE use.... Hope you know all those words
8 -- What is common amongst ALL the posters? Tell me at least 4 things.
9 -- Which is your favorite and why?
10 -- What would you have on your campaign poster - what would symbolize what you stand for and believe?
