In clss we reviewed the elements of design. We came up with this mnemonic:
Should Linus take Snoopy's very fruity candy? I am sad to say the dialectic class gave a rousing "yes", but happy to say the UG class said, "NO!".
The elements are:
Shape
Line
Texture
Space
Value
Form
Color

The above link may be a helpful tool to help them remember these terms for the quiz.
In class we explored Oil Pastels - we also learned and reviewed some other art terms (they should know these):
Tooth
Heavy Pressure Blending
Light Pressure Blending
Stippling
Scumbling
Scrafino
Finally, we will be doing an art piece next coop with chalk pastels. It would be helpful if students "study" this composition using the following questions to guide them. They could also recreate this work with oil pastels at home if they desire.
San Giorgio Maggiore by Twilight
Please have the students look at this work for:
1 - What makes up the composition - should be at least 4 things...
2- what colors do you see? Maybe make a list like this... Sky: Water: .left Island: Right Island:
3 - where are the "islands in the picture - make a sketch or use a ruler to see if you can do the basic outline of the picture
4 - what is different between the sky and the water?
5 - Which direction are the strokes of paint done in for each of the composition elements.
See you next coop!
With joy,
Mrs. P
