Writing Class Optional Assignment

Dear moms,

I have been vacillating back and forth on requiring a writing assignment to be due on co-op # 1. I do not want our students to be frustrated or stressed prior to the first day of class, so here is what I am offering our students--

If your student would like to participate in this writing assignment for co-op #1, then I will leave that to your discretion. No one will be singled out for not completing this, but it will mainly be for me to see the skill level of our students. I know several of our children are just now learning to compose sentences with correct structures and patterns, while some of our older students are ready for multi-paragraph writing. If your child does not complete this specific assignment, I would be happy to look at a piece of their writing from last year. Just make sure it is sent with them on the first co-op. Remember, this is NOT a required writing assignment, just an optional writing assignment to be due on the first co-op.

I would love to hear from your student on this topic below. The paper can be hand-written on standard paper (double-spaced) in print or cursive. Or, it can be typed in 12 point font (Times New Roman) with Title centered at top and name directly below title.

Assignment: Write one paragraph consisting of 3-5 sentences describing what you did this summer. Did you take a trip? Did you participate in any fun activities like VBS, drama camps, church camps, swimming lessons, Bible studies, and so on. What made your summer fun? Did you learn to do anything new? If you took a trip somewhere, where did you go? What did you see?

**If your student is eager to write more, then by all means they can write more than five sentences. Let the writing fun begin!
