I am very excited for our first class on Thursday and am praying for a great year with your students in Dialectic writing. I know everyone has probably already read the parent's letter that I posted several weeks ago with the items needed for class, but a reminder never hurts, right? :-)

The homework assignments for the first half of the year are attached below, so please print a copy for your student to have in class. They will also need their composition book and binder with the four dividers for notes, rough drafts, completed writing, and resources. They will not need to file their assignment in the assignment box as I will pick them up at the end of class along with their composition notebooks. Folders for their homework assignments would be helpful.

As always, each parent will determine how much of the homework is done at home. I have generally tried to assign one writing assignment per week during off weeks and have set a minimum writing guideline of 1 paragraph (6th grade), 2 paragraphs (7th grade) and 3 paragraphs (8th grade). However, please feel free to either scale that upwards or downwards to meet your own homeschooling plans. My personal philosophy is that I would much prefer to see students focus on writing one assignment with quality, well-thought-out sentences and paragraphs than two assignments done passably well. Be sure to let me know if you have excused your student from an assignment.

I have opted to limit lecture time this year and allow students to take their own notes instead of providing them. I will emphasize the necessity for good notetaking in class and would appreciate your support as well. As always, don't hesitate to use the forum to address questions on assignments. I am also available after class if you would like to speak with me personally.

I'm super excited to see your student's creativity and progress as we move through the year.

Blessings,
Phyllis
