UG Writing Co-op 9

Dear moms,
I hope your children are sailing through the assignments from co-op 8. They should have one journal entry to work on, which I am thoroughly enjoying reading, and they should be working on outlining and paraphrasing the Chapter VIII-Margolo from Stuart Little. We discussed and practiced outlining in class last semester. This may seem a pointless task, but this develops the pre-writing skills our students will build on as they move through Upper Grammar and on to Dialectic. We will continue practicing various forms of outlines in class to relate to topic sentences and supporting sentences.
If you have any questions, please ask. As always, scale this assignment as needed. I will be using the last ten minutes of class to have our students present their outlines in class to retell their paraphrase writing. The goal here is to lessen the tendency to read when presenting. Your kids are doing FANTASTIC with their presentation skills! Seriously.
I hope your kids received their letters from Mr. Boren. He was impressed with the writing skills of your kids and the interesting questions he was asked. He also mentioned organizing a field trip for our class to see his airplane at Ft. Knox with a possible special appearance from his dog, Piper Jane. If you are interested in this field trip, please let me know. I'll get it organized if we have enough interest.
See you all next week!
