Please read Johnny Tremain and complete the SAP from weeks 32, 33, and 34. Questions 6-8 on week 34's SAP may be a struggle. We haven't gone as in depth in class on these concepts so they may not be prepared to complete these independently. Just have them do there best and we will discuss these in class together. If they need to leave them blank I'm ok with that too! I am also going to post the newer literature terms for them to be able to study. I just wanted to get this posted as I know it's not been timely this time.
Thanks,
Brandy Givan

Texture - a literary analysis category that deals with the "feel" of a literary work, which is made up of specific techniques and devices, and a particular style. In literature we are referring to the overall atmosphere, style, technique, language choices, and tone of a work.
Style - the unique rhythm, techniques, and qualities that characterize a particular author's craftsmanship.
Sentence structure - the characteristic length, syntax, grammar, and punctuation of a given author's sentences. These elements can contribute to creating a leisurely, thoughtful mood, or a passionate one, or even an angry one.
Tone - the emotional coloring or attitude(s) displayed in the overall texture of a literary work. Tone includes the author's attitudes and emotions as express in the story, as well as the consistent emotional mood(s) of characters in the story. Sometimes the tone is one of mourning. Sometimes it is of celebration. Sometimes it is cynical, or longing, hopeless.
Descriptive Style - the technique(s) and other means of expression that an author characteristically uses in his descriptions. Does he carefully describe every detail or does he merely sketch the setting with a few brief phrases? What kinds of things does your author tend to describe, and what things does he emphasize in his descriptions.
Experiment in living - a choice that a character makes to act and live according to particular beliefs. Experiments in living depend most of all on a character's worldview or beliefs, but also secondarily on his nature (characteristic thoughts, feelings, traits, etc.) and circumstances (relationships, roles, social class, etc.)
Foreshadowing - a plot device whereby the author hints at a future outcome but does not fully reveal it
Theme - the message or meaning of literary work, which also reveals what the author believes to be real or not real; true or false; right or wrong; valuable or worthless
Topic - the subject(s) addressed by a literary work, about which the author will comment through his theme(s)
