ALL art students,
You did a wonderful job digging into the cartography project, and I am so excited many of you enjoy the exploration like I have!
For homework, you are to plan/design/draw your compass rose and your nameplates. Please decide what you will write or represent within the nameplate as well. As promised, I am attaching another PDF with additional compass roses and nameplates.
I referenced a map which had both Ptolemy and Copernicus on it - with a deference to Copernicus' theory as he was shown "on the right"... I have not re-found that map, YET. BUT, here is the first map that shows "AMERICI" on it with both Ptolemy and Amerigo Vespuci shown on it. Pretty Cool - America bought the map to have Something else to note about this map is that it looks like they revised the wood block to allow for the Cape of Good Hope (or Cape of Storms)... which ever it was referred to at the time.

Please bring the same supplies to class: pencil/eraser, flaire markers, colored pencils, ruler, and your PLANS for the compass rose and nameplate
Looking forward to seeing what you discover!
