Writing Homework and Test

Post by PhyllisG »

I went back and reread my last forum post and realized that I had promised to have the students' test available before Christmas-clearly that didn't happen! So...thank you for your patience! I've attached both the test and this next semester's homework assignments to print. This next semester, we will be finishing our bio reports for the contest, learning the differences between an elegy and a eulogy, writing an interview report, writing 2 informal letters, and collaborating on a short story set in space. I'm hoping that your students continue to enjoy writing class as we finish out Y4 with some fun assignments and learn together.

Just a quick note on the test--you are welcome to choose whether this is taken with or without notes. I have encouraged everyone to study as they go, as I personally am a believer in preparing students for academics outside of the homeschool environment, which can include pop quizzes and finals. The choice is always yours, however. If you do not want me to give a grade on the test, please be sure to let me know and I will correct it without a grade. Otherwise, the test should be turned in at co-op 9 along with their research (in the form of notes on cards, folder/stickies, graphic organizer or outline) and rough draft. If at all possible, please send the rough draft on Google docs for my revision and editing after the editing has been done at home by a parent. I'm looking forward to reading these wonderful reports and seeing how everyone does in the contest.

I'd love any constructive feedback you may have on how the class has been going this year and how I can improve/change the teaching objectives in order to meet your needs best.

Blessings,
Phyllis
