3. Writing Assignments

This week, you will be writing two pieces. One will be a “praise” and one will be a “lament”. We went over many passages in class, so students should be very familiar with this idea.

Your specific theme is to write about or from the perspective of:

A) a historical figure that we have studied so far in weeks 1-18 of Year One TOG

B) a specifically Biblical historical figure, any from Genesis to Revelation

Here’s a fun twist!! Can you write your two pieces in such a way that you don’t come right out and tell us WHO is praising or lamenting? Let us see if we can figure it out with the richness of detail and information you provide in your works.

3. Writing Assignment

Please write a process report, of any length, that truly expresses an understanding of the process in an engaging way, from one of these topics:

-The journey of the life of Solomon

-The creation of Solomon’s Temple

-The progression of the tabernacle, to Solomon’s temple, to destruction, to rebuilding, to destruction, to Herod’s temple, to destruction again, etc…the history of the “temple” in Jerusalem, even to present-day

-The process of gaining wisdom, from a Biblical perspective

-The succession of the Kings of Israel and/or Judah

-An Old Testament prophet’s life, events, and prophecies

This is briefly what I taught in class, if a refresher is needed:

*A process report explains a process or procedure.

A) Pick a process/journey/procedure we can research or know a lot about and can explain
B) Look at graphic organizers on page 196 and 203 in Writing Aids as options to use for prewriting
C) Intro should tell the reader what they’ll be learning about and try to have a hook to interest reader
D) Body should be orderly, descriptive paragraphs, using transitional phrases
E) Conclusion should sum up the process; writer’s opinion being added at this point is appropriate; possibly the conclusion can relate the essay to a broader context or overall theme.
