Co-op 1 - A few notes about History
Just a few notes about Dialectic History as we prepare for our first Co-op...
Please encourage your students to bring their Bible/story Bible to Co-op when the TOG week plans include Bible reading.
For Co-op unity, I will be following Amber's lead (Rhetoric History) on Timeline dates - please know these don't always follow exactly the TOG curriculum and many Biblical scholars and secular historians disagree on these. I do think there is value enough in seeing the order of events, but your student will not be expected to memorize these and you may want to discuss it further at home if this is a topic of particular interest to your family.
I am attaching a syllabus of sorts for our class that includes general topics covered in the TOG week plans. Feel free to view/print if you find it helpful.
Blessings-
Ellen Greeley

Co-op 2 Assignment
We had a great first class together. Your kids are such a fun and knowledgeable group - I learned a few things about Ancient Egypt myself! And don't worry, when our conversation headed toward the thread of the hardening of Pharaoh's heart, I told them that would be a great topic to discuss with their parents!
Please see attached for the Co-op 2 Assignment. Your student will need to turn their work in at the beginning of the co-op day in the box that sits at the back of the sanctuary. I will typically return their homework in class rather than to the box in the mom's room as we often discuss the answers in class.
Blessings-

Co-op 3 Assignment
Please see attached for the Co-op 3 Assignment. Note - the handout with a diagram of the tabernacle was handed out in class. Also, for Co-op 4 (Oct. 3), your student has been assigned a feast/festival on which they will be doing a short presentation. A separate post will be coming within the next few days with more information in case your student would like to begin gathering resources or preparing.

Co-op 4 Assignment
Please note this post if for Co-op 4 (due Oct. 3). The previous post contains the assignment due for Co-op 3 (Sept. 19). At Co-op 4 your student has been asked to give a brief presentation on one of the Biblical feasts. I wanted to go ahead and post the information early so families can begin to gather resources and discuss preparations. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. This will be the only presentation type assignment your student will be asked to do in history this year - we are tackling it early! The topics are listed below:
Karin Ingalls - Passover
Sophia Green - Feast of Unleavened Bread
Piper Hunt - Feast of Firstfruits
Karsten Ingalls - Feast of Weeks (Shavuot)
Elisabeth Scroggs - Feast of Trumpets (Rosh HaShanah)
Isaiah Givan - Day of Atonement
Zeke Combs - Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)
I believe your student will also be using a Jewish holiday as a topic for writing for Co-op 4. Hopefully they can use their reading/research to tackle both assignments.

Co-op 5 Assignment
All of your students did such a great job on their presentations today and it was neat to be able to see the Tabernacle assembled. I hope to send feedback on individual presentations soon. Please see attached file for the assignment for Co-op 5. There are two pages of charts (one for India & one for China) for your student to work on as they read. Encourage them to fill in all they can and we'll discuss/add needed info in class.

Re: Dialectic History
We had a great class today. Be sure and ask your student about our guest via Skype. In case they didn't get them down, here are some prayer requests our guest mentioned...
*Christians in China - for the Holy Spirit to give faithfulness, perseverance, and hope
*Workers/Missionaries - for fruitfulness, endurance, rest and healing in the midst of crisis, renewed vision
*For Eric's family - his family's physical health - wife (Lauren) and daughter (Cora) have been sick for weeks with a cough - his wife is pregnant and due Feb. 18th
For next co-op, I am attaching an assignment. Please note: I have included a copy of the chart we have been filling out for Ancient Cultures for Ancient Americas. WE WILL NOT BE COVERING THIS THREAD IN CLASS so I consider it optional. Please determine whether or not you want your student to complete that portion of the assignment. We will be covering the venn diagram for Minoans/Mycenaens and completing a STEM activity in class related to Ancient Greece.
Please also ask your student to take time before next co-op to organize his/her history materials. The only thing that should be in the folder they turn in is the current homework. I'd rather not have to sift through all the previous homework each time. Materials I hand out are typically hole-punched and binder ready.
Your student will also need to add the timeline dates handed out in class today - as we ran out of time to do those in class. In case they lost that paper, these are the dates:
Ancient Chinese cultures flourish 2075 BC
Indus River Valley Civilization 2000 BC
Beginning of Hinduism 1400 BC
Lao-tzi, founder of Taoism ~ 600 BC
Buddha 563-483 BC
Confucius 551-479 BC
China unified as empire 221 BC

Re: Dialectic History
Thanks, Ellen! We are very much enjoying your class!
Is the Venn diagram for the Minoans something you gave them in class to complete before next co-op? Or are they just doing it in class?

Re: Dialectic History
Sorry for the confusion - I see I did not make it clear. The venn diagram is the second page of the attached assignment. You will want to print both pages if your student is doing the chart on Ancient Americas and only page 2 if not.
