Informative Speech additional comments

Post by EricaS »

Thank you to those who have sent me drafts of their speeches. You are doing well!

If you have not sent me a draft, or if you have and I have not commented on it (sorry! that means I have lost it :/) please send me what you have.

General comments -

Remember this is a speech not an essay. Outlines can be similar. Details and support can be also. But your sentence structure needs to be easily heard. You need to remember your audience only gets to hear what you are saying once - they can't look back up the page for a word or idea. They can't reread.

Also, you must verbally cite any sources you use. The citations should fit smoothly into your presentation. They must include the title and date. You must cite direct quotes, but you must also cite any information that is not common knowledge.

EXAMPLES:

In her 1994 book, It is a Matter of Time, Ima Rush made this very clear. Her four steps to getting behind in life are.....

LATER IN THE SAME SPEECH

Ima Rush weighs in on this point as well. She states, "without a proper view of where we are, we will always be in a bad place."
