So sorry to be just getting this on the forum. I discussed with the students in class last co-op that we would be talking about ancient mythologies. I gave them verbal instructions. I assume from their TOG and CC backgrounds, all four of the students have exposure and resources at home relating to ancient mythologies and world religions.
Please read Week 3 supplements: Myths Legends and Folktales: What are the differences? AND Understanding Mythology Biblically
I asked them to review or scan through the mythologies of
Ancient Egypt
Mesopotamia
Ancient India
Ancient China
Mayan Culture
Ancient Greece
The Tapestry material has information on these in throughout Unit 1 teacher notes. You might also find info in an Usborne or DK world religions book, and many other places.
No homework to turn in. . .but here are some questions to consider. . .
In mythology, the gods are often created in man's image. Look for examples of this.
There is a God-shaped void in the heart of every human being. Both conscience and creation speak to the human heart and mind about the Creator. Often bits of and pieces of revealed truth come to be mixed up in mythologies. Look for examples of myths that seem to be similar to stories you might find in the Bible.
What is the role of human beings in each of these mythological systems?
How do the "god's" power compare to God's power?
Compare the mythologies. Any similarities? Differences?
Based on their mythologies,
what did each culture value (what meant the most to them?)?
what was the culture's sense of morality (what did they believe to be good behavior vs. bad behavior?)
