Co-op 8 notes for tomorrow.

I will be changing the assignment due for co-op 9 slightly. After some thought, I've decided to continue on with the essay theme, but now using the contemporary approach of a 5-point essay. Their assignment will still require research of a historical figure, but they will begin writing an essay instead of a historical biography. I apologize for the head fake, but I like the idea of continuing in the same general direction as we've been going. Please look for more specific direction in the next few days.

There is a slight change to the writing homework that you all need to know about. This second semester will generally have two separate writing assignments-- one week to focus on mastering the concepts learned in classical composition and one week to work on the concepts being taught at co-op. As stated in a previous post on the forum, you choose the workload for your student. If you have them complete both assignments, they will likely need to work on writing every day in order to make it manageable.

The classical composition assignment for co-op 9 has no change. I have changed the assignment for contemporary writing from researching for a historical biography to reasearching for a 5-paragraph essay on a historical figure. I have asked the students to pick a person of historical interest and write an essay on three character traits this person exhibited. These traits can be controversial as long as they're supported. Many of the student's expressed a desire to write on the same person they're researching for another class assignment. I'm perfectly fine with that.

So, this part of their assignment is to do the research and fill out a graphic organizer, either the one I provided in their notes, a cluster diagram or write an outline.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Blessings,
Phyllis

Hey everyone!! I'm still working on finalizing plans and homework for the last three co-ops, but I have the homework assignments for co-ops 9 and 10. Notes will hopefully be out sometime tomorrow or early Wednesday. Thank you for your patience!

As promised, here are the notes for Thursday, as well as the link for two documents. Please print both the Citation Data Form and MLA Citation Guide for class, as we will be looking at both of those documents. If you have trouble with the link, try retyping it into your browser or you can contact me and I'll print a set for your student.

Ladies,

I will not be adding an assignment for the next co-op, however, if your student only did half of the assignment that was due for co-op 9, then please have them do the other part of the assignment for co-op 10. If your student has already completed both parts of the assignment, then I will leave it up to you whether you desire them to have an additional writing assignment. I can tell you that we will be working on Lessons 7 and 14 in the Classical Composition book in future co-ops, so lesson 8 would be an excellent essay to work on as we move into the Civil War.

Keep the notes for co-op 9 as I will teach that lesson at co-op 10. Also, I will be completing and updating the homework assignments in the next few days to reflect the correct co-op so you can print and completely replace the partial one I attached in the previous note.

Blessings,
Phyllis

Another option for writing would be to complete the second half of Lesson 7 in the Classical Composition book. This was wisely suggested by Ellen and would give your student some breathing room after co-op 10 where they will be writing the rough draft of their historical essay and working on poetry. I would actually suggest this option if your student has completed all of the homework from co-op 8.

Ladies, please print the attached homework assignment in its entirety. It will replace the previous homework assignment document for co-ops 9-10.

Also, your students will still need a copy of the student notes for co-op 9 that I published on Jan 16. They will also need to bring a copy of the MLA guide and citation organizer from the website listed in that same post.

Blessings,
Phyllis

Notes and an extra worksheet for practicing irregular verbs are attached. Please print both as we will use class time to work on the worksheet if there's extra time available. Warning, both of the files are long due to the list of irregular verbs.

Note: I would really appreciate it if you could remind your students to ensure all the documents are printed for co-op. There have been at least one or two students at every co-op that haven't had their notes printed.

Blessings,
Phyllis

Co-op 12 notes are attached below for your printing pleasure! Please remind your students to bring the fill-in list of irregular verbs to turn in with their other homework (I mentioned this in class so it shouldn't be a surprise even though it's not listed as part of their homework). If the majority of students have not gone back through the list and made note of the verbs they need to learn, then we may go through them in class if there's time. This co-op was when the final drafts of the students' poems were due. I would like every student to read at least one of their poems to the rest of the class (which I did not mention at co-op 11  ).

Hi Ladies,

Due to my tardiness in getting the notes completed in time for you to print them, I plan on bringing copies with me to class for everyone tomorrow. I'm sorry for the hiccup.

Blessings,
Phyllis
