We had a great class exploring the possibilities of pencil (and color pencils) and blending sticks. Here is a great reference I just found for those parents that want to know or students that missed the class: http://rapidfireart.com/2015/05/08/deta ... ing-stump/
Unfortunately, I can't find the worksheet online any longer that I handed out. Here is one for reference that is ok: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/406731410077327595/
Please consider having students that didn't do the work on campaign posters, compete that (It does not have to be turned in to me).
Have students GO BACK to the campaign posters and look specifically at the ribbon work. We learned about drawing ribbons. Have them try to "copy" one or more of the ribbons that have varying widths. This should help solidify the class lesson. I suggested they could make a card (Easter, Mother's Day...) or a sign for someone to encourage or motivate, or they could make a "nameplate" type ribbon.
Resources on ribbon drawing: Some of these you can skip through a bit --- there are LOTS of videos to choose from. The first two are sufficient.
Basic ribbon with shading and value application using a blending tool : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWjZLSdX8rM (8min)
Basic ribbon with lettering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah8tOZEgbVs (8min)
Here is a video tutorial on ribbon drawing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOLtBkLeD60 (11 min)
Short video on shading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rGA6UiT9l0
This video shows good shading and use of value....and some added detailing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJEY7PyvGII (13min)
***Main New Work*** I told the students that ribbon drawing was how you draw canyons.... I found this FANTASTIC video on it. Please have students watch and make a canyon drawing.

Then you can see how it applies to cliff and crevasses:

Have fun with these new techniques.
