THREE ITEMS TO HAVE FOR CLASS:
We will finally be doing our sculpture project ... !!! For those of you that already brought in your books, I will have them with me. If you did not - please be sure to have your book!!
You will also need a pair of sharp, POINTY scissors (small ones may be easiest to use). Student scissors may not be the way to go with this - GOAL: to be able to cleanly cut through about 25/30 pages of a book at one time...
Please bring TWO of your ROUND paint brushes (if you purchased them at the beginning of the year) ... I will also have my teacher's set.
It would be super helpful if you label/mark/tag your paint brush handles as well... I will likely clean all the brushes after first class and leave for pick up in the afternoon. Last class may be rinsing and taking theirs home in baggies for proper cleaning at home due to time constraints.
ONE THING TO REVIEW FOR CLASS
Some of your students made Greek pottery last year. It is neat to see how these traditional shapes and even names have continued through history. Please take a few minutes to review (print only if you desire) the information and look at the images of just a couple "periods" of Renaissance pottery that are included in this pdf. The Met has a very concise description of these particular time periods if you want to read the essays (the link is included on the pdf).
Students will be designing their own sculpture using French Curves (inspired by but not limited to the Greeks styles as in the Renaissance time). Their designs will do best if they have a "foot". Please have them consider this as they are looking at these images. Also, handles would have to be created with paper and added after the "carving".
Thank you! Excited to see their next masterpieces!
