Dear Moms,
In the "I Love Words" class, we are working on creating a "Story About Me" book. To complete this well, I am requesting some help from you - 1. a digital photo of your child and 2. writing at home
1. Photo:
I tried to have the kids draw a picture of themselves to use on the cover, but most did not seem to be happy with their pictures when they were finished. So, I'd like to have parents send me a digital version of simple headshot of your LG child. This does not need to be a professional picture, just a snapshot that your child and you both like. Once you send me the digital version of this headshot, I will print it for your child to use for the cover of their "book."
2. Writing at Home:
This printable sheet has various things for students to write about. https://printables.scholastic.com/conte ... 14-001.pdf
Anything that they can do at home on this sheet would be very helpful. I thought we'd be able to do this in class, but the kids were mainly a bit stumped. I think they will all be much more able to think and write about these items at home.
Of course, I understand that you may not have time to add this to their school agenda, but if you can assign perhaps one section every day or so to complete, that would allow us to complete these with a better final product than if we did this all in class.
If you do choose to have your students complete aspects of the sheet at the link above, perhaps you could first discuss the section with your child and have them talk about what they would write, helping them to record their thoughts - dictate their ideas to you. The younger your student is, the more complete dictation you may want to do. Then, they could copy onto the sheet what you wrote down for them. Or if they are older and more able to write down their own thoughts, writing first onto notebook paper then onto the actual "Read All About Me" sheet would allow for a neater version.
Your student may have another idea for something else they may want to record. If so, that should work well. It should be written in a size similar to the other boxes on the link above so it will fit into the booklet.
If you choose not to do the above prep work at home, I'll have the blank sheets available for those students. We will be cutting these out and gluing into a booklet to create their own little "Story About Me."
Thank you for your help! I'd love for these kids to make books that they are really happy with and that are special to look back on when they are older.
