Writing--Vocabulary list/cards

Post by KristyS »

UG Writing moms,

I'm attaching the revised vocabulary list, but this will also be handed out to your children this week during class. I'm also attaching a helpful vocabulary card deck that you can print on card stock and cut out if you would like for your child to use this. It is not required that your child have this vocabulary card deck in class, but I will be using my own cards for vocabulary games/drills each week during our class time. Use it if you find it helpful. I left enough space for students to write their own example sentences on the card and/or the part of speech (the back of card will be blank).

Just to clarify, we have several notebooks for our class:

1) Main writing notebook with syllabus and co-op notes/homework assignment at end of each co-op section (including check-off list).
2) Grammar Worksheet notebook (worksheets for each co-op). We will do some of these together in class each week.
3) Grammar composition notebook (for writing definitions and dictations)
4) Student Resource Packet (in back of main writing notebook).

**Make sure your child brings all of this with them to class; otherwise, they will have a hard time following along in class.**

Please remember that all of the graphic organizers are available to you in the Writing Aids books/cd/downloadable documents). I'll always have some included in the main writing notebook and during class, but you'll need to print more if your students needs additional sheets at home.

I'm also attaching the sentence classification sheet for you to print as many times as you want for at-home purposes. I expect our students to master this over time, and I'll have fun graphic poster boards in class for all of our visual learners who need extra color and graphics. I'm happy to send you pictures of these if you want them for your students. I have my own children copy these until they are mastered.

I have many songs in my grammar "toolbox" that I've made up over the years for my own children. If you would like for me to send those to you via email or voice memo on your phone, please let me know. We'll be learning these in class for memorization purposes. Last week we covered the noun, verb, and eight parts of speech songs. I'll send all those to your phone if you want them.

I'll see your wonderful students this Thursday for co-op 2. We'll be continuing with descriptive writing and adding more elements of style to our compositions. Looking forward to it!
