UG Writing Co-op 15 & 16

Post by KristyS »

Hello UG moms--

We are in the homestretch with writing class! Your children should be finishing up his/her missionary book for the book report assignment covering co-ops 14 & 15. Once they finish their book, they should begin the brainstorming, outlining, graphic organizing, and selection of important/interesting information to create the skeleton of their book report. I would like all rough draft work to be turned in at next co-op including outlines/graphic organizers or any other methods you use at home for pre-writing. The students know this paper is to be five paragraphs in length including an introduction, three body paragraphs, and conclusion. I would like to see some review/recommendation of the book within the body and conclusion. We have pounded the idea in class that the conclusion should repeat and reflect the introduction, and we have practiced many examples in class on how to do this.

On our final co-op day, the students are encouraged to dress up as their respective missionary and present their papers. I must say, your children have grown leaps and bounds in their presentation skills. They are learning how to "present" instead of "read." This is the goal. As I tell them in class, I want to see their eyes and not the tops of their heads when they speak. Encourage them to practice in front of a mirror or with a sibling as they finalize their paper over the next few weeks.

**Remember, all that is due next week is the pre-writing and any rough draft work that has been completed. I'll edit and return back to them.

If you have any questions regarding this assignment, please ask.
