Rhetoric History Amendment

Post by EricaS »

I left too many thinking questions on this! I'm so sorry.

If you have already done them, bless you!! If not, only do 3. You may choose the three you want. I suggest the 3 below, but any are fine. Number 7 will be a discussion question for class - we'll talk about the facts of the Indian removal and your response and why it could have seemed the right thing to do in that day - and whether or not it was.

I want to spend a good part of our time on the church history section, so if you are running short on time, please skim that information first.

Thank you! I love how good you all are getting at thinking about these things and articulating your ideas.

Thinking Questions:
1. From this week’s reading assignment in Paul Johnson’s The Early American Republic, describe the factions
that developed in the Republican party and were especially apparent towards the end of the Era of Good
Feeling.
3. Why were Adams’s political opponents not in favor of using federal money to make national improvements
like building roads and canals or funding research centers and universities?
4. How were Adams’s decisions concerning the Creek territories in Georgia perhaps the worst mistakes of his
career?

7. Why was Jackson unopposed in his seemingly cruel and unfair policy of Indian removal?
