Re: Year 3 class overviews (2018-2018)
I wanted to add a note about editions on The Universe Next Door.
If you look on amazon, you can read at least part of the introduction to the 5th edition where he explains what he has added and changed.
I do not know, yet, exactly what all will be referenced from that book through this year and next. I currently have the 3rd edition. From what he said about the changes in the 4th edition and the addition of the chapter on Islam's influence on the modern world in the 5th edition, I am going to go ahead and order the 5th edition.
If you have the 4th edition, I think that will be fine for this year. The chapter on Islam would probably not come up until next year, if at all, in the curriculum, and that sounds like the major change between 4 and 5.
If you own the 3rd edition, I just don't know. Much is the same. It would definitely be valuable reading. It will have some fairly significant differences - e.g. he changed the way he describes what a worldview is in the 4th edition.
If you are going to buy it for this year, I strongly suggest getting the 5th edition. It sounds really good.
Now, of course, your curriculum will give chapter/page readings for the edition available for that version of the curriculum! And those did change. If we are going to address anything specifically in class, we will work really hard to determine what readings will fit with that. Hopefully it will not be too complicated!
